The deep-water Cai Mep-Thi Vai international port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province was officially put into operation on Monday.
The port which is part of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex consists of piers, roads linking from National Highway 51 to the port, and logistics facilities.
According to the Project Management Unit No. 85 under the Ministry of Transport, the project having a total investment of VND12.89 trillion used loans of the Japan International Development Agency (JICA) and Vietnam’s reciprocal capital.
The opening of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai international port will help transport goods directly from Vietnam to foreign countries, reduce time and costs and accelerate the relocation of ports in HCMC.
Besides, the upgrade of National Highway 51 has been completed, which will facilitate the goods transport from HCMC, Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces to the port.
